1st XI v Rolls Royce Leisure (home) – South Notts Cricket League, Division A
The 1st XI home fixtures kicked off by hosting Rolls Royce Leisure to the PCG. The opposition called correctly and asked Plumtree to bat first; Steve James continued his excellent start to the season with a patient 50 and he was superbly supported by Charlie Kingsbury with 59 and together they put on 89 for the 4th wicket. When that wicket fell at 137 in the 34th over, hopes were high for a big total but the innings fell away with wickets falling regularly. The innings closed when the side were bowled out in the final over for 194, thus achieving maximum batting points but probably 40-50 less than par.
After a slightly extended tea interval (the opposition needed to resolve some internal conflict issues), Rolls Royce set off like a train and when they lost their first wicket in the 15th over, they had already racked up 86. The pace continued and whilst Plumtree were very unlucky with a number of catches dropping just beyond fielders, the visitors passed the Plumtree total in 33rd over for the loss of only 4 wickets. Brad Evans restored some pride for the side by totally outpacing some of the less disciplined batters with a couple of fast straight ones, but Plumtree were well beaten.

2nd XI v Eastwood Town (away) – South Notts Cricket League Division B
With Rob Tapp pulling out of this game due the imminent arrival of his first child, Robbie Smith had the opportunity to captain the side and took it well by recording a good win against this side relegated from Division A in 2009. Plumtree batted first and were struggling early on 87 for 5 from 21 overs. Skipper Smith then took the game by the scruff and struck a superb 83 from 97 balls. Supported excellently by Ali Hall with a typically whirlwind effort of 36 from 16 balls, Plumtree closed on 244 for 9 from their 48 overs.
In reply, Eastwood never really got going and were skittled for 137 in 43 overs. Alex Sheriston (5-51), Darren Wright (3-36) and PK (2-8) shared the wickets; a full scorecard from this game can be found by clicking here and a league table here – Division B.
3rd XI v Broad Street (away0 – South Notts Cricket League Division L
Phil Garner’s side have been the stand-out Saturday team of the season to date and continued the winning trend with a 7 wicket win away at Broad Street. The home side batted first but were bowled out for 124 inside 40 overs with Keith Sheriston (3-29) and Matt Snelgrove (3-36) leading the charge. In reply, Fred Dulwich batted well for 33 before veteran Ross Crombie saw the side home with a classy 47 not out. Another 20 point win leaves this side top of the league and a scorecard from this game can be found here and a league table here – Division L.
Sunday 1st XI v Madni (away) Newark Alliance Division 1
A fine win away at Madni was enabled by a good all-round batting and bowling performance; stand-in skipper Brad Evans won the toss and batted first and will have been pleased with a total of 217 all out in 39.1 overs. The major contribution can from Hassan Azad with 72.
In their response, Madni never really got going and they were bowled out inside 26 overs with the wickets shared around between Brad (2-14) and Matt Snelgrove (2-26) taking the eye. A full scorecard for this game can be found by clicking here and the latest league table by clicking here.
Sunday 2nd XI v Newark (home) – Newark Alliance Division 4
Kelly’s heroes continued their stellar season when they completed a six wicket victory over Newark. PK won the toss and asked the visitors to have first dig. They seemed well pleased with their effort when they closed on 201 for 6. Oggie grabbed a couple of wickets and Natty caught the eye with a tight 1-25 from his eight overs.
This was Newark’s 1st XI and was made up mainly of more senior cricketers than a very junior Plumtree XI but you wouldn’t have thought it from the score. For the second week running, the young tyros did the business and secured a fantastic win against a much more experienced side. The total was overhauled with three overs to spare with Dec Marks again shining with 42 but by far the most impressive innings of the match was played by 17 year old Jamie Hahn with a magnificent 90 not from 91 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. This game was a massive pleasure to watch.
