Former Plumtree Pro Gets Central Contract with Ireland
January 26, 2010
Former Plumtree professional Kevin O’Brien has secured a central contract with Cricket Ireland as they attempt to build towards the 2011 World Cup; he is one of six players to be selected by coach Phil Simmons for a full-time contract. Kevin, who plays for Railway Union in Dublin is delighted to be chosen “Playing International cricket for your country is a enormous honour in the first place but to be allowed the time and space to work on my cricket to improve the team’s performances is a huge boost. The whole team will be better prepared than ever before for the challenges of 2010 and beyond and I am really excited by the prospect”.
Asked about his time at Plumtree, Kevin was sure that they would have a good 2010 “I loved the few games I played for Plumtree and it was such a shame that I didn’t get the opportunity to play more. It’s a great place and the spirit within the club, both on and off the field is amazing. I know the lads will perform well under new skipper Scott Bailey and I’ll be keeping an eye on their results. If I’m in Nottingham over the summer, I’ll definitely pop down for a drink at Benters’ Bar & Grill to enjoy the craic. I am also trying to work out whether we can get my Irish club to come and over and play Plumtree sometime in the summer; that would be a hell of a weekend!”
