President’s Day A Great Success
September 3, 2009
The long-awaited President’s Day on Bank Holiday Monday was a terrific success, with even the weather providing a dry day for everyone to enjoy the fun. Activities kicked off with a round of Kwik Cricket matches between Plumtree, Southwell, Wollaton and West Bridgford who won the final after a close-fought battle with Plumtree.
Benter’s Bar was humming during the lunch period with the conclusion of his guest beer weekend going down a storm; as usual, Dallas and Scott were manning the barbecue and provided some much needed gastronomic input to soak up the beer.
The main event of the day kicked off after lunch with a 30 over game between the Women’s team of Plumtree and Sileby; a cracking game of cricket followed with Plumtree overcoming the visitors target of 100 in good time with Eloise Haywood excelling with 61 not from 56 balls to add to her excellent bowling figures of 3-3. A great game for the spectators to enjoy and for the Women’s team to show how much progress they have made in recent years.
Club President Jerry Rotton said after the match “ the whole day demonstrated just how much hard work & coaching has been going on week in week out and included a couple of important firsts; in the afternoon match there was the first Ladies half century in a competetive game scored at Plumtree and a maiden 50 for Eloise Haywood, many congratulations to her.
“My grateful thanks to all who made the day such a success, even the weather remained perfect, but I especially congatulate Rose Dove, who continues to inspire by her leadership.”
