Girls’ Cricket Update
July 14, 2009
Plumtree has an excellent girls cricket section headed up by club stalwart Rosemary Dove and she has provided this update on their activities this summer so far.
July 5th saw the Plumtree Girls Festival played at the PCG for the Kevin Pickaver Cup; three teams competed for the trophy and hosts Plumtree and Wollaton lost out to eventual winners Southwell in this Inter Cricket Tournament.
The Kwik Cricket League was won by Southwell 8/8 Plumtree were 2nd with 6/8.
In the Hit4Six Kwik Cricket, Plumtree were runners up to Southwell; having won three rounds, Plumtree then beat West Bridgfordians in the semi-final and narrowly lost out to Southwell in the final. Rosemary reports that it was a long morning with five game being played but that the Plumtree girls demonstrated outstanding team spirit and shown a tremendous improvement in their skills.
As for the Hit4six Senior match, 9 Plumtree senior girls/ladies took part in this match split between two teams making up an 8 a side pairs match. Plumtree’s Jill Millar’s team won so the trophy will be at Plumtree this year; five of the winning team were Plumtree with additional players from Ransom & Marles, Sourhwell and Mansfield & Plessly. Plumtree’s Harriett Dexter was the top scorer with 15 not out from 5 overs.
Zara Barnes also played well for the Rushcliffe Under 13 Kwik team who were runners up.
I am sure that all the girls would like to thank Rosemary for her outstanding efforts in organising these events and managing the teams.
