Club Strengthens 1st XI Squad
July 7, 2009
With the first team’s current poor form, club chairman Mark Oldham has been working hard behind the scenes to strengthen the first team squad to try and ensure that the club retains it’s Premier League status for 2010. Club members may be aware that one of our professionals, Jason Brown from Nottinghamshire CCC, has a long-term calf injury and may be unavailable for up to six weeks.
Jason’s absence has been a great loss to the club and in an effort to strengthen the squad, the club has inked a deal with Kevin O’Brien, a member of the successful Ireland side that recently took their place in the ICC World Twenty20 World Cup. On a Summer contract with Nottinghamshire, Kevin will be available to Plumtree from the middle of July.
Kevin has played 30 One Day Internationals with one ton and four fifties and a batting average of 35.50; with his right arm medium pacers he has also taken 16 ODI wickets. He also has a first class hundred to his name. A Cricinfo profile on Kevin can be found by clicking here.
In addition, the club has also recruited Ben Thompson a former Oxfordshire Minor Counties and Middlesex 2nd XI player. Ben has also been playing professional rugby with Nottingham RFC and, whilst he hasn’t played much cricket in the last few years, his record shows him to be a formidable club player who should further strengthen the squad.
We’d like to welcome both Kevin and Ben to the club and wish that they enjoy successful and happy cricketing experiences with us.
